We're Bringing Essential Items To 1000s of Vulnerable Families throughout Jordan
The Syria Fund provides critically-needed food, household and hygiene aid to extremely vulnerable populations of Syrian refugees and others throughout Northern Jordan.
According to a July 2016 survey by UNHCR, over 90 percent of registered Syrian refugees in Jordan outside of refugee camps are living below the national poverty line and 30% of households are not receiving enough food.
Previous surveys have found that almost half of refugee households have no heating, a quarter have unreliable electricity, and 20 percent have no functioning toilet. Rental costs accounted for more than half of household expenditures, and refugee families are increasingly being forced to share accommodations with others to reduce costs.
The Syria Fund helps to address refugees’ emergency needs through our partner, Helping Refugees in Jordan (HRJ). HRJ gives us an on-the-ground presence and access to timely information about emergency needs. We are able to provide critically-needed items like food packages, warm blankets, hygiene items, medical equipment and more. TSF and HRJ purchase all items from Jordanian vendors, helping to provide income for local people and supporting the economy. Jordanian communities are shouldering a tremendous burden on their economy brought on by the stress of thousands of refugees entering Jordan.
